Son of Constantine & Clarrisa (Smith) Hughes. Father of Nellie, Myra, Clarrisa, Maud, Katherine, Carrie, Milo, Ruth, Floyd, & Dorothy

George Elliott Hughes, 72-year-old farmer residing in the vicinity of Hinton, died Tuesday morning in the home a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Hacker, 4525 Floyd avenue, after an illness of three months.

Mr. Hughes was born December 2, 1873, in Nichols county, Neb. He was married August 25, 1893, to Eva Martin at Red Cloud, Neb. In 1898 the family moved to Whiting, and he engaged in farming there before coming to Sioux City.

Surviving are two sons, Milo Hughes of Merrill, and Floyd Hughes of Sioux City; seven daughters, Mrs. Harry (Clarissa) Fosnot and Mrs. Lloyd (Carrie) Reed, both of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Franklin (Maude) Crooks, Mrs. Edwin (Katherine) Ahlquist, Mrs. Delbert (Dorothy) Henshaw and Mrs. Nellie Hacker, all of Sioux City, and Mrs. Otto (Ruth) Meister of Moville; 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One daughter, Myra, died while the family resided in Whiting.

The body is at the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler funeral home.
