Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. Balgimbayev served as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from October 10, 1997 to October 1, 1999. He started his career working in the oil business before serving with the Oil and Gas Ministry of the Soviet Union. After further education and training in the United States, Balgimbayev served as Oil and Gas Minister of Kazakhstan. He also served as president of KazakhOil before becoming prime minister in 1997, an office he would hold for two years until 1999. After Balgimbayev left office, he contiuned as president of KazakhOil until being replaced after a company merger. He continued to serve as an advisor to President Nursultan Nazarbayev until before his passing.
