Nina Marie (Preston) Boever, 88, of Estherville, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

She was married to Marv Boever for 67 years. Together they had six children, 28 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and dozens of friends and neighbors with whom Nina was always generous with her time and affection.

From an early age, Nina was a natural in the outdoors. Born near Swea City on April 2, 1927, she spent her childhood helping her father on the farm. She was two-time state milking champion and an accomplished cowgirl, and met Marv while competing in local rodeos.

After graduating from high school, Nina worked as a waitress and at Woolworth in Estherville. She and Marv were married on Aug. 16, 1948, at St. Patrick's Church. With each of her six children, Nina was active and devoted, serving as a 4-H and Cub Scout leader and taking the family on many picnics and camping trips.

Nina shared her talents with the broader community, too. In the 1950s and 1960s, every baby born to St. Patrick's families received a baptismal gown that Nina had sewed by hand. She cooked and taught religion classes at the school, mentored more than 60 young married couples as co-chairwoman of the Christian Family Movement and tended to people in need through her work with the Legion of Mary.

When her children were grown, Nina continued volunteering, tending to her garden and spent hours making hundreds of handmade crafts. She never lost her touch for meticulous housekeeping and organization or her devotion to the Catholic faith.

Later in life, as she began to suffer the effects of Alzheimer's disease, Nina thoughtfully prepared memory books and needlepoint treasures for each member of her growing family.

Nina is survived by her husband, children: Wally (Katy) Boever of Lincoln, Neb., Theresa (Jim) Golden of Okoboji, Frank (Janee) Boever of Spencer, Mark (Janel) Boever of Worthington, Minn., and Bernadette (Keith) Duitsman of Estherville, along with grandchildren and their families. Additionally Nina is survived by her sister Phylis Griffith, Apple Valley, CA, brother Jim Preston of Texas, and sister Janyce Kelly, Armstrong, IA.

She was preceded in death by her son Matthew, her mother and father, Joe and Pearl Preston, brother Tom, and sisters Pauline, Eloise, Wilma, Miriam and Martha.

Nina's love of life was her Lord Jesus Christ, her family and her church. Many thanks for helping us in our human loss of life and welcoming Nina's soul into an eternity of complete happiness with the Holy Family, their angels, saints and martyrs. (Henry Olson Funeral Home)
