He went from Maine to Nevada in 1880 and for a time was District Attorney of Humboldt county. He later went to San Louis Obispo, California, where he practiced law. On returning to Reno he was named District Attorney and when the city was incorporated he was chosen First City Attorney. After retiring from politics, he opened his law office in which he remained active until his death.
