AN OLD SETTLER GONE
James Ream, One of the
Pioneer's of Clark County,
Died Nov. 4th
James Ream was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, November 2, 1918. He departed this life November 4, 1909 being 91 years and 2 days old.
He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania was married to Eleanor Colborn, of Pennsylvania February 15, 1845. In 1855 they moved to Agency City, Iowa and in 1866 they moved to Clarke county and have lived here since then. Twelve children were born to them, eight sons and four daughters. One daughter died in infancy and two sons after they grew to manhood.
He united with the Baptist church and accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 21. After moving to Clarke county he united with the Methodist Protestant church and was a member of that church at the time of his death. He was fully conscious to the last and was ready and anxious to go.
Mr. Ream was one of the oldest settlers of this county, having lived here close on to forty five years. He was respected and liked by all who knew him and was a good citizen, always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by his many friends and all extend their sympathy to the family.
Funeral services were held at the Fremont church Sunday at 11:00 o'clock in the presence of a congregation of sorrowing friends and were conducted by Rev. R. S. Tague. The remains were laid to rest in the Fremont cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
