Alfred Franklin married Cora Brill on 19 February 1901 in Phoenix, and the couple reared two daughters.

In 1910, Alfred was a delegate to the Arizona state constitutional convention. Upon statehood in 1912, he became chief justice of the Arizona State Supreme Court, a post he held until 1918.

Between 1919 and 1920, Alfred lost his wife, his mother and his older brother. Overcome with grief, he became a recluse and sought solitude in the desert. He was last seen alive in 1948; when and where he died is unknown.
