Television Program Producer. She started out as director of the soap opera "The Secret Storm" before moving on to "General Hospital" as executive producer. In 1978, the soap "General Hospital" was given 13 weeks until cancellation when Monty took over as Executive Producer. She was hired by ABC executive Fred Silverman to boost the ratings—and within months Monty elevated the ABC soap to the number one position where it would remain for years. Over those years Ms. Monty was nominated five times for a daytime Emmy award. She won the award twice in 1980-81 and in 1983-84. Ms. Monty was credited with creating the Luke and Laura story line and managed to cast some big names into cameo appearances on the show, names such as Elizabeth Taylor and Sammy Davis, Jr. Ms. Monty was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame in 1996. She was named of the "The 50 Most Fascinating People" by People magazine and made the covers of People, Newsweek, Time and Us, as well as several covers of Soap Opera Digest. Ms. Monty died of cancer at the age of 84.
