Rev. Daniel P. Henry, age eighty-four years, died December 30, 1948, having served in the ministry fifty-five years, and in the Church of the Nazarene since 1923. He was born on September 10, 1864, in Flynn Township, Sanilac County, Michigan, the son of Edward James Henry and Ann Eliza Pomeroy. He married Ella Burden on April 27, 1884. Having lived in Michigan, working as a lumberjack, stone mason, and minister, Daniel began full-time mission work in 1907 when he moved Vancouver, British Columbia. His oldest child, Edna remained in Michigan where she had married Amos Jones in 1904. His early ministry was in the Methodist church with circuits in western Canada and Washington; then pioneering in the Northwest, he built ten Nazarene churches and three parsonages, often working with his own hands as an able mason and carpenter. Among churches to his credit are Coos Bay [Oregon], Centralia [Washington], Ridgefield [Washington], Kalama [Washington], Carson [Washington], Stevenson [Washingtion], and Pittock Grove, Portland [Oregon]. Daniel and Ella had seven children: Edna Henry Jones (1885-1933), James (1887-1948), Edith Henry Hacking (1890-1948), Harvey George (1892-1968), Donald (1897-1975), Harold (1902-??), Ruth Henry Becker (1905-1997), and Gerald (1909-??) He was a godly man of achieving faith, and a great sympathy for common people. He maintained an amazing spirit of optimism to the end of his life.
