American Television Personality. Perry, born James Edward Dooley, was a very popular television personality who was most famous for being the host of two game shows, "Card Sharks" and "Sale of the Century" during the 1970s and 1980s. He started out as a singer working in various areas while under his birth name of Jim Dooley before changing the last name to Perry (his mother's maiden name) when he went to television. Perry was a popular game show host in Canada, hosting several television game shows, while also hosting the Miss Canada pageant during the 1970s and 1980s. He got his first stint as a game show host in the United States in 1967 when he became the host of "It's Your Move". Perry would host several other game shows in the United States before getting his first "big break" in 1978 when he was hired by Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions to host "Card Sharks", where he would be until 1981. After hosting several pilot shows in 1981 and 1982, he got his second "big break" when he was hired to host "Sale of the Century", which he would do until 1989. Perry became one of the most popular game show hosts of the 1980s and after "Sale of the Century" went off, he hosted numerous other game shows while performing charitable works as well. He retired from television in the late 1990s.
