HETTIE SEIFERT, 67, A NURSING DIRECTOR

ELIZABETH, N.J., March 5--Miss Hettie W. Seifert of 38 Chilton Street, executive director of the Visiting Nurse Association of Eastern Union County for thirty years until her retirement in 1950, died today at her home. She was 67 years old.

She was the first nurse in the state appointed to the State Crippled Children's Commission. She was graduated from St. Joseph's Training School for Nurses, Baltimore, and also attended Columbia and Rutgers Universities.

Miss Seifert began her career here in 1920, when the Nurse Association served only residents of this city. Under her leadership its service were expanded to cover eastern Union County. During World War II, as chairman of the procurement and assignment committee of the Eastern Union County Nursing Council for War Services, she supervised the task of listing, screening and classifying more than 1,700 nurses.

She served as a member of Elizabeth's first housing committee, which antedated the establishment of the Housing Authority. She aided the first housing survey for the city and served on the executive committee of a group working for better housing in New Jersey. She was a former president of the State Organization for Public Health Nursing and long had served as a member of the board.

A sister, Mrs. Joseph Guidice of this city, survives.
