US Congressman. From 1892 to 1895, he was City Attorney for Newnan, Georgia and Solicitor of the City Court of Newnan, 1894 to 1903. He was a member of the board of education, 1910 to 1918 and chairman of the Democratic Georgia state executive committees, 1910 and 1911. In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of US Representative William C. Adamson, was reelected to the Sixty-sixth and to the six succeeding Congresses, serving from January, 1918 to March, 1933. He died just three months after completing his final term.
