Mrs. Barbara Louise Nelson Cheek, 81, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at her home. She was born in Rockingham Co. on August 3, 1934 the daughter of the late Early Vie Nelson and Mary Elsie Smith Nelson. Mrs. Cheek was a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Peggy Reid Rowe and Betty Nelson Vanhoy. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Avery Lee Cheek of the home, three daughters; Connie Louise Cheek of Welcome, Deena Cheek Helms (Jim) of Denver, NC and Elaine Cheryl Cheek of Quaker Gap, a brother; Jack Nelson (Becky) of Lewisville and two sisters; June Nelson Koehn of Rural Hall and Vonnie Nelson Kiger (Bill) of Surf City, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
