Royalty. Born the daughter of Don Juan Manuel and Constance of Castile. As a child she was married to Alfonso XI. After seven years the marriage was annulled. In 1336 she was married to Pedro I of Portugal by proxy, but she was not allowed to leave Castile until 1339. Pedro fell in love with her maid Inez de Castro, whom she had brought to Portugal. The affair lasted until 1355, when Inez was murdered by Alfonso IV. Constanca bore three children in this marriage. Luis, who only lived for eight days, Maria and Fernando. She died 13 days after giving birth a third time.
