Katherine was born and raised on her father's family farm in Hanover Twp., Washington Co., PA.

She was first married to Willis C. Bubbett in 1881. Willis died in 1883 at the young age of 25. She and her son, James Armor Bubbett, returned to her father's family farm to live. In the 1900 Census, she was 44 and living with son, 18, her father, James Burns and her brother Oliver Thomas Burns, in Hanover Township, Washington Co., PA.

In the 1910 Census, she was listed as 51, and she and her son, 25, were still living on the family farm with her brother Oliver T. Burns, her father having died in 1907. According to one family member they stayed on the family farm even though it had not been willed to them by her father.

On 19 August 1915, Katherine, age 58, and Homer I. Totten, age 62, obtained a marriage license in Wheeling, WV, and were married on the same day by the Rev. Charles H. Robinson in the First U.P. Church in Wheeling, Ohio Co., WV. Both of them had lost spouses.

According to a family member, after her marriage to Homer Totten, Katherine sold some of the family goods, chartered a car, and moved to Zanesville, OH. At some time later they were wiped out by a flood on the Muskingum River.

In the 1920 Census Katherine and Homer were living in Lancaster Ward 1, Fairfield Co, OH. The census records his birth state as OH and both his parents as MD.

According to her death certificate, Katherine, 72, was living at 304 Sherman Street in Akron, Summit Co., OH, when she died on 25 Feb 1928. She was listed as single, so Homer must have died prior to her death. She was buried the same day in Mount Peace Cemetery.

Ohio records have a Homer Totten dying on 15 Jan 1923 in Fairfield Co., OH. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville, OH, Memorial #7510044. I strongly suspect this is Katherine's second husband.
