JONESPORT – Charlotte Juanita Beal, 85, a lifetime resident of Jonesport, passed away December 16, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born, in Jonesport, February 2, 1930 to Francis and Cecelia (Beal) Dobbins.

She graduated from Jonesport High School and attended college at the eye and ear infirmary of the Maine School of Nursing. She worked for Merrill Trust Co., Jonesport Maternity Home, Miller Funeral Home and Met Life. She used her education and work experience to become an entrepreneur, owning a store in the 1950s and eventually starting the first bed and breakfast in Jonesport. She was very patriotic and active in her community. She was founder of the “Tuesday Night Club” and was on the library committee. In her free time she loved to play the piano, sing and write.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Beal and wife Kathy, Peter Beal and partner Rosalie Barrett, Tommy Beal and wife Karen, and John Beal; daughters, Muriel “Chickie” Compton and husband Joshua, Nancy Hooper and husband Stanley, Glenda Davis, Jill Harrington and partner Sean Flynn; brother, Millard “Buzz” Dobbins and wife Donna; sister-in-law, Janice Mitchell; grandchildren, Lynn, Stephanie, Michelle, Melissa, Kristina, Jaime, Jennifer and Guy; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan R. Beal; her infant son, her parents, her parents-in-law, Arnold and Phyllis Beal; and two great-grandsons.

Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Machias.
