Attorney. Joseph Dahr Jamail, Jr. was an American attorney and billionaire. Jamail was born in Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas. After graduation he attended the The University of Texas at Austin (UT) for one semester before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1943. After serving in the Pacific during World War II, Jamail returned to UT, where he received his B.A. in 1950. He attended The University of Texas School of Law where he received his J.D. in 1953. Not a stand out student in law school he barley passed the state bar exam after graduation. He scored a 76. One point over the minium required score. He went on to dazzle his profession by winning huge judgments, including Pennzoil’s $10.5 billion award against Texaco in 1985. At the time it was the largest judgement in American History. Joe Jamail’s specialty was personal injury cases such as people hurt in accidents or by commercial products. In his career he won more than 500 lawsuits and $13 billion in judgments and settlements for his clients and often he was referred to as the "King of Torts". He was the richest practicing attorney in America at the time of his death.
