Dr. George T. McPhail, age 79, of Little Rock, died Monday, August 3, 1978 at Fort Roots Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock. He had been in poor health for the past three years and had been in the hospital since February. He was born April 6, 1908 in Slate Springs, Miss., a son of John McPhail and Lula Clark McPhail. He had made his home in Forrest City since 1946, before moving to Little Rock in December. He was a retired general practitioner, a veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church in Forrest City. He was a mason, a lifetime member of the Arkansas Medical Society, and was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1955 he married the former Martha Hubach, who survives him in Little Rock. He also leaves three daughters, Dr. Mary Ellen McPhailof Little Rock and Frances Lynn McPhail and Lula Bell Buford of Forrest City; a brother, D. H. McPhail of Slate Springs; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 1978 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Steven Funeral Home.
