Ollie W. McClung, Sr., moderator of the 1961 General Assembly died August 13. Mr. McClung was an elder and charter member of the Crestline Church, Birmingham, AL. Before becoming instrumental in the founding of the Crestline congregation, Mr. McClung was an elder in the Homewood Church. He served on presbyterial and synodic boards, as well as the denominational Board of Finance.
Mr. McClung was a well-known Birmingham businessman, owning and operating a family restaurant "Ollie's Barbecue." Ollie's barbecue has been served to many famous customers including a recent shipment to President George Bush's summer home in Maine.
The Rev. Jim Butler, Mr. McClung's pastor, officiated at the funeral. The sermon was given by the Rev. J. D. Phelps, former pastor of the Crestline Church.
Mr. McClung is survived by his wife, Ora, two sons; Ollie W. McClung, Jr. and "Bo" McClung, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Hot Lunch Program in Colombia, South America.
