Coach Eddy is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, football coach, teacher, mentor, and friend. He leaves a legacy of giving back, true grit, determination, and some exceptional life lessons to all of those who were blessed to know him. Coach was born May 21, 1929, in Warner, OK, to Kelly and Irene Eddy. He was the oldest of four boys. Growing up on a farm near Checotah, OK, he was a key member of the family farm operation. He watched admiringly as his uncles played football in his early years and when he entered the 8th grade he was given his first chance to play. He quickly separated himself as a real talent. He played two years at TU before he joined the Navy and fought in the Korean War. He served on three submarines during the conflict, the last of which was the USS Pomfket. He also played football in the Navy. As a player on the Navy service team, he played in the Hula Bowl in Hawaii. After the war, he returned to Northeastern State University, played one year of football and went on to complete his Bachelors and Masters' degrees in Education. He married Laura Faye Trimm in 1959. His coaching career included stints at Warner, Vinita, Broken Arrow and Tulsa Memorial. He spent nine years at Vinita High School, seven of which he was the head coach. He always said, at Memorial "pride was a big deal" and he enjoyed the zenith of his career during his 15 years as a Charger, becoming the Head Coach in 1976 and winning a state championship in 1980. Coach Eddy also coached Oklahoma to a victory over Texas in the Oil Bowl in 1983. In 1985, he retired from coaching and teaching.
