German Major General. Knights Cross Holder. He was commander of Artilleriekommandeur 6 at Stalingrad and was taken prisoner by the Soviet Union, where he died in captivity at the Frolov POW Camp. He was awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross in 1942 for his actions during the Battle of Stalingrad. He also fought in the Battle of France, Operation Barbarossa, and the Battle of Rzhev. His other awards included the Iron Cross First and Second Class in both World War I and World War II and the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords in World War I.
