ONE VICTIM BURIED.
BRAKEMAN TOY AND FIREMAN MCGONIGLE BROUGHT FROM ROSEBURG.
The remains of John McGonigle, the fireman, and A. N. Toy, the brakeman, who were killed in the railroad accident near Roseburg, were brought from Roseburg yesterday morning and taken to the East Side. The body of McGonigle was taken to the undertaking rooms of F.S. Dunning,, on East Sixth, and those of young Toy to his mother’s home in Albina, on Gantenbein avenue, near the St. Johns junction depot.
The funeral services of McGonigle, the fireman, will take place this morning from Dunning’s undertaking rooms, East Sixth street, at 9:30. Rev. Van Waters, of St. David’s church, will conduct the services. The remains will be buried in the G.A.R. grounds, and the funeral will be attended largely by the members of that order. Yesterday the employees of the Southern Pacific carshops made up a purse to provide floral tributes to their late companion, expressive of their esteem. A number of railroad men will be present at the funeral.
The deceased fireman leaves a widow and one child 4 years old, a mother and a brother. He has been railroading for the past 21 years and was regarded as a thoroughly reliable man. He worked in the Southern Pacific carshops for a time. He had an accident policy which calls for $1500. He has lived for some time next to the corner of Milwaukie and Powell streets, and bore an excellent reputation Just before he started on the fatal trip he told his wife he intended to join the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers in a short time, a project never to be realized. All who knew Mr. McGonigle speak in the highest terms of him.
