Pilot. George Thomas Condrey III (pilot) was on the Army helicopter UH-1C Iroquois #64-14172, alongside James L. Dayton (aircraft commander), Daniel E. Jurecko (crew chief) and Robert E. Jenne, on a combat support mission southwest of Da Nang. Their aircraft was hit by a suspected RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) while making a turn and exploded in mid air. As a result, they crashed into the Buong River Bank. All 4 men were pronounced dead at the site. The enemy activity was so bad and their bodies were too badly deteriorated to be brought back home. As a result, George's remains were sadly never brought back home.
