Royalty. Queen of Portugal in her own right, although she was disposed after a short time. She was the only surviving child of King Ferdinand I of Portugal and his wife, Leonor Telles de Meneses. Before she was even ten she had been betrothed to Edward of Norwich, Fadrique of Castille and two sons of Juan I of Castile. In 1383 she was married to the fourteen years older Juan I. When her father died later in the same year Juan claimed the throne of Portugal by right of his wife. He fought for some years to secure his reign but was defeated by João de Aviz.
