Major League Baseball Player. For three seasons (1950 to 1952), he was a pitcher with the Philadelphia Athletics. Born John Albert Kucab, he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 1940, prior to serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. After pitching with Youngstown in the Mid-Atlantic League, he was acquired by the Philadelphia Athletics and made his Major League debut on September 14th, 1950. His first Major League win was of historic significance because it was the last win for Connie Mack, prior to his stepping down as the Athletics' manager. In 1951, he produced a career-high 4 wins in 30 games pitched. In 59 career regular-season games, he compiled a 5-win, 5-loss record, with a lifetime 4.44 ERA, in 152 innings pitched. After retiring from baseball, he worked for a distribution company. He died from a heart attack.
