US Congressman. After completing his education he established a produce business in Syracuse, which proved so successful he extended his operation to include New York City. Bennett moved to Buffalo in 1853, where he built and operated several grain elevators and also purchased the original Dart grain elevator. He was a State Senator in 1865. In 1868 he was elected to the US House as a Republican and served one term. He declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1870, and returned to his grain elevator business in Buffalo, which he operated until his death.
