Congressman. He graduated from Williams College in 1804, studied law, and became an attorney in Pompey in 1807. He was elected to Congress as a Democratic-Republican in 1814 and served one term, 1815 to 1817. Birdseye was Postmaster of Pompey Hill from 1817 to 1838 and Onondaga County District Attorney from 1818 to 1833. He held the judicial position of Master of Chancery for Onondaga County from 1818 to 1822. Birdseye served in the New York Assembly in 1823, the State Senate in 1827, and again in the Assembly from 1838 to 1840. He was an unsuccessful Whig candidate for Congress in 1838, and a successful candidate in 1840. After serving one term he returned to his Pompey law practice. His great-grandson Clarence Birdseye developed the process for freezing food and founded Birdseye Frozen Foods.
