Schuyler Washington Colfax was the second son born to Hester and William Colfax. He married Hannah Stryker on April 15, 1820 and they had two children but he was never to know his son Schuyler Jr. who was born in 1823 after Schuyler Sr. had died. He would have been very proud of his son who went on to become a great political figure. Schuyler Jr. was Vice President of the United States from 1869 to 1873.
