According to the "History of the Twelfth Infantry Regiment In World War II" by Colonel Gerden F Johnson, Private Nick Baron was a member of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment. On June 8th, 1944, the 1st Battalion was ordered to secure high ground north of the town of Montebourg, France. The battalion advanced under heavy German artillery fire to a location between the towns of Emondeville and Azeville, where it repelled a vicious counterattack. At some point during the days heavy fighting, Private Nick Baron was killed in action.
