THEODORE W. KERR, 84, of Clark Lane, Kingston, professor emeritus at the University of Rhode Island, died Saturday at South County Hospital in Wakefield. He was the husband of Grace M. (Grimes) Kerr.
Born in Patterson, N.J., a son of the late Theodore W. and Daisy (Henshaw) Kerr, he had lived in Kingston since 1946.
Professor Kerr graduated from the former Massachsuetts State College at Amherst, now the University of Massachusetts, in 1936 and received his doctorate from Cornell Univeristy in Ithica, N.Y., in 1940.
He had worked for the Naugatuck Chemical Laboratory in Bethany, Conn., a subsidiary of the U.S. Rubber Co. In 1946 he became professor of entomology at the University of Rhode Island and taught at the school for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
Professor Kerr was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Hope Lodge No. 25 F.& A.M. of Wakefield. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory and the Valley in Providence.
He was a member of the Entomology Society of America, the Tavern Hall Club of Kingston and was a member of the Honorary Scholastic Society of Sigma Psi of Cornell University.
