In the 1900 LaRue County Census George Towles was family 108 in the Buffalo District. He was 60 years old and married 17 years to Marthy, age 34 and mother of 6, 5 living children: Parry, 16; Carter, 13; Arthur, 8; Haskett, 5; and William J., age 3 years.

George's parents died when he was young and he was raised by his maternal grandfather, George Towles. He went by the name: George W. Towles (sometimes Toles).

George enlisted in the Union Army August 27, 1863 in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky. He served as a private in Company D. 37th Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry until his discharge at Louisville on December 29, 1864.
He applied for a military pension September 9, 1889. He was allowed an Invalid Pension of $12 a month, which was increased to $14 in 1891. By 1921 his pension had increased to $72 a month. George was ill December 1, 1915 in the National Home for D. V. S. in Danville, Illinois. He was discharged from the home on June 24, 1916, re-admitted on October 7, 1917, and again discharged on March 21, 1918.

GEORGE W. THOMPSON was born in Green County on Oct. 12, 1839. He was a son of George and Mary (Towles) Thompson. He was 23 years old when he enrolled in the Union Army on August 20, 1862. He enrolled at Louisville and was a private in Company I, 34th Ky. Infantry, He was described at enlistment as 5 ft. 7 inches tall, blue eyes, light hair and light skin, lie apparently deserted the unit on March 1, 1863. He then enlisted six months later on August 27, 1863 in Capt. Middleton's Company U, 37th Ky. infantry. Middleton listed his home as LaRue County. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 29, 1864.
He married to Harriett A. Wise on August 8, 1861 in LaRue County. He filed for a pension in September 1889. He was married to Susan M. Thompson on March 6, 1882. He died of heart disease at Buffalo on April 3, 1926 and is buried in the Buffalo cemetery. (bio added by Russell Perkins, FAG #47213352)
