King of Sweden. As the son of Prince Hollinger the Elder, he belonged to a branch of the same Erican Dynasty and reigned between Eric the Lisper-and-Halter's two periods on the throne. He had been King Eric's councilor before staging a mutinous revolt against him in 1229. His reign lasted for five years until he was killed in another battle, which enabled Eric to return. King Canute II relied on an Earl Chancellor of his who had so much power of his own that he minted his own coins as if he were the monarch. The King and his Queen Helen, who was a Danish noblewoman of the Ulfeldt Dynasty, had two sons who vied for the throne years later but were executed in 1248 and 1251. The first clear portrait of any member of Swedish royalty is that of his son, Prince Hollinger the Younger, on a pall made for his tomb at Sko Cloister near Stockholm.
