   Ward, James Alto Jr., MD, age 94, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on Sept 24, 2014. He was born June 27, 1920 in Baltimore, MD to James Alto Ward Sr. and Linda Belle Heacock Ward and moved to Birmingham at age 3 months. He was preceded in death by his Daughter, Linda Elizabeth Ward, and son-in-law, William Lett Rowlen, and brother-in-law, John Kenneth Morland.
   He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Audrey Charbonnet Ward, brother, William Joseph Ward (Caroline) and sister, Margaret Ward Morland, daughter, Patricia Ward Rowlen; sons, James Alto Ward III (Beth), Bruce Gilbert Ward (Beverly) and Robert William Ward (Sally) of Hendersonville, NC. Grandchildren, Brandon John Rowlen (Kim), William James Rowlen (Meredith), Dennis Ward Rowlen (Heather), Sara Ward Culpepper (Steve), Jessica Ward Schniper (Jonathan), Linda Ward Bennett (Aaron), Audrey Ward, Gena Ward, Sylvia Ward, Isabel Ward, Lillian Ward, Mary Ward, and James Ward. Great-grandchildren: Jackson Rowlen, Wilson Rowlen, Anderson Rowlen, John Rowlen, Ethan Schniper, David Schniper, Bess Rowlen, Henry Rowlen, and Dylan Culpepper.
   Dr. James A Ward was a graduate of Howard College (Samford University) and received his Medical Degree in 1944 from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. Internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. Completed General Surgical training at Ochsner Medical Foundation, New Orleans, La in 1953. He entered private practice of general surgery in 1953 in Birmingham, Al and continued until retirement in 1989. He became a Fellow of American College of Surgeons in 1957. Served as President of Howard College (Samford University) Alumni Association 1957-1959. Served two terms as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Baptist Medical Center, Montclair. Also served on the medical staffs of the University Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Brookwood Hospital. He was a Volunteer Faculty teaching Surgical Residents at University Hospital and Baptist Medical Center Hospital.
   Membership in the following Medical Organizations: American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Jefferson County Medical Association, Birmingham Surgical Society, Birmingham clinical Club. He was also a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church, The Country Club of Birmingham, Piney Woods Hunt club, and a former member of Mountain Brook Exchange Club.
   The family will receive friends on Friday September 26, 2014, 5-7 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 27, 2014, 11:00 at Valley Chapel followed by a private burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flower, memorials may be made to: Alabama Wildlife Federation, Baptist Medical Foundation.
