Dale Albert Schnieber, 93, of Billings, passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2006.
He was born July 24, 1913, in Raymond, Neb., a son of Ewald and Minnie (Goesch) Schnieber. The family moved to western Nebraska, where Dale attended school in Farnum. He played four years of football while in school and graduated from high school in 1934.
On Sept. 19, 1941, Dale married Frances Huber in Gothenburg, Neb. He entered the Army on Oct. 1, 1941. Dale fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII and was discharged Sept. 27, 1945. He and Frances then settled in Billings, where they raised two children, and Dale operated the West High Phillips 66 service station until his retirement in 1978. He was a faithful member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and helped the church as a custodian and groundskeeper for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Frances; two sons, Gregg (Gail) Schnieber of Billings and Bruce (Gretchen) Schnieber of Salem, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Kurtis (Suzanne), Aaron and Jonathan Schnieber, Susan (Bryan) Kendrick and Laurie Ann (Nathan) House. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and a grandson.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Military honors and interment of urn will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
