Mary BRUNNER was a woman ahead of her time; she enjoyed life and all that came with it. Mary Elizabeth Young Brunner was born on November 15, 1891; her father Charles Brunner was 26 and her mother Elizabeth YOUNG was 27. While the family was living in Muncie, IN, she met and married a handsome divorcee Clinton Ater. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Kansas where Clinton was a oil drilling manager in El Dorado, Kansas. The couple rented a home, which was large enough to rent a portion out to another oil driller, Selmon M. Hill. Life was good for Mary until 1923 when Clinton was involved in an accident and died a "horrible death." Heartbroken, widow Mary sought out her family in Los Angeles. She drove her 1923-Studabaker (alone) across country from Kansas to Los Angeles. Selmon Hill, would follow Mary out to LA, court her, and the couple married about 1924. After touring the National Parks in California, Oregon, and Wyoming, Mary and S.M. Hill returned to Kansas and continued in the oil drilling. Unfortunately, the couple divorced before 1933 (reason unknown).SM Hill's find a grave is # 125578131. Before 1933, Mary met Winfield Scott Kelly, and the couple married in 1933 in St. Louis, MO. It is not known why or when the couple move to Salem, Oregon, but they lived there until Mary's death. Unfortunately, Mary suffered from diabetes and December 1940 she died from complications of the disease. Services were held in Portland, OR, but she returned to Los Angeles. Her burial is in the Great Mausoleum in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA.
