Bobby was the oldest of three sons born to Robert Lee and Ruth Inez (Hopkins) Whittington. He married Janet Elizabeth Goodman in 1964 and they were the parents of three children: Lee Edward, Elizabeth Dare and Joseph 'Joey' Doyle.

Funeral service is 11 AM Thursday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jimmy Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM tonight at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Mr. Whittington was was a native of Cabarrus County, born December 22, 1940 to Mrs. Ruth Hopkins Whittington of Concord and the late Robert L. Whittington. He was retired from Lucent Technologies. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Ray Whittington.
Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janet Goodman Whittington; daughter Elizabeth W. Huneycutt and her husband, Dwayne, of Albemarle; two sons, Lee E. Whittington of Concord, and Mr. Joseph 'Joey' Doyle Whittington and his wife, Elizabeth 'Tinky', of Concord; and a brother, Mr. Donald Ray Whittington of Mt. Pleasant.
