Obituary:
Funeral service for Virginia Richey Thornbury will be today at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Sandy Felkins officiating. Burial will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Mrs. Thornbury passed away on April 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lauren W. Thornbury; her parents, Ed and Burmah Richey; two brothers, Lawrence Richey and Eugene Richey. Survivors include her son, Larry Thornbury (Marie), of Lineville; her daughter and loving caregiver, Karen Blackmon Smith (Herman), of Oxford; two sisters, Ruby Turner, of Geraldine and Myra Taylor (E. G.), of Gainesville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Christy Shipe (Chuck), of Saks, Shannon Thornbury (Cindy), of Sylacauga, Shelley Welch (Scott), of Oxford, Wesley Blackmon (Lori), of Alexandria; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thornbury was a native of Geraldine, Alabama and had lived in Saks since 1963. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Saks and loved her family, cooking and fishing.
