They were married for 57 years. Mrs. Schweder worked as the Secretary in the City Clerks' office in Bethlehem City Hall upon graduation from Bethlehem Catholic High School, Class of 1945. It was there that she was introduced to her future husband by his father, Fire Chief John L. Schweder. They were married in 1948. Mr. Schweder was a first team All American football player for the University of Pennsylvania, and played 6 years in the National Football league for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mary Schweder dedicated her life to her husband and her family, they were her greatest joy. She also enjoyed her summers in Avalon, NJ. Mary was a member of SS Simon and Jude Parish and recently was attending St. Anne's Catholic Church. An avid traveler, she coordinated trips for the SS Simon Seniors for the better part of the past 20 years.
Survivors: Mary is survived by four children: J. Michael Schweder and his wife Annette, Anne Berg and her husband George, Libby Geyer and Stephanie Schweder-Kratzer and her husband Gene; grandchildren: Robert Emmett Schweder, John L. Schweder, Michael C. Schweder, Alexis Berg-Townsend, Erin Preisler, Barrett Geyer, Meghann Geyer, Ryan Kratzer and Avalon Kratzer; and eight great grandchildren.
Services: A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 5-8 p.m. and again on Monday, April 18th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne's Catholic Church 450 E. Washington Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18017 at 10 a.m. Entombment will be at Bethlehem Memorial Park Mausoleum.
