Delphie Valentine Mazankowski, 87, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He leaves his wife of 65 years; his daughters; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many close friends.
Born in Loup City, Nebraska, the son of John and Maggie (Kowalski) Mazankowski, he lived on a farm and attended school in the Litchfield area.
In his early years, Mr. Mazankowski farmed in the Sweetwater, Nebraska area and worked as a farm hand before being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War.
He met his wife, Phyllis, at a dance and they were married February 5, 1951 in Pleasanton, Nebraska.
After serving in the Army, he returned to Kearney, Nebraska where he worked for Payne and Larson Furniture Store. In 1954, he moved his family to Aberdeen, Washington where he worked for Hoquiam Chair Factory then Harbor Disposal. In 1959, they moved to California and bought Sierra Bakery Service. Not only did he take pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during this time. In 1968, Mr. Mazankowski sold his business and started a career of driving trucks for wholesale grocery distributors. He retired in 1991.
Mr. Mazankowski had a passion for gardening and wood working. He also was very involved with the American Legion. He served as the Commander of the 31st District, Commander of Colfax Post 192, belonged to the past Commanders Club, VFW as well as 40 & 8.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, six sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter.
