Although telegrams of congratulation flooded into the Prime Minister's Cottesloe home today, there was only a handful of onlookers when Sergeant John Francis Curtin, R.A.A.F., married former W.A.A.F. Corporal Catherine Reid Neill in Ross Memorial Presbyterian Church. Reason was "young John's" dislike for basking in reflected glory. Only the eight people connected with the wedding were present at a luncheon 'breakfast' in the Palace Hotel after the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. John Aitken. At 9 a.m. today, the Prime Minister telephoned his son and family from his room in the Mercy Hospital, Melbourne, giving his blessing. He had also sent a telegram. Mr Curtin told his family that he felt much better and expected to be allowed up for a little while tomorrow. Bridegroom, aged 23, is Mr and Mrs Curtin's only son, and the 22-year-old bride, who was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, and who left the W.A.A.F. a few days before the wedding, is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs D. H. Neill, of Mt. Lawley. Both of the bride's parents are well-known in bowling circles and Mrs Neill is president of the Women Bowlers' Association... Bridesmaid [was] Signaller Barbara Young A.W.A.S... Best man was Sergeant Gil Ledger, R.A.A.F. Mr Neill gave his daughter away. Mrs Curtin in a smart all black outfit, was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs J. W. Cole.
