US Congressman. He was trained as a printer and was later employed as a letter carrier. He was Recorder of Marion County from 1903 to 1908. From 1908 to 1912 Key was Secretary (Chief Aide) for Congressman Carl C. Anderson. He was elected to the US House as a Democrat in 1912 and served three terms, 1913 to 1919. Key served as Chairman of the Committee on Pensions. After running unsuccessfully for reelection in 1918, he returned to Marion and became active in the oil business. From 1934 until his retirement in 1941 he was Inspector of Federal Prisons.
