Russian Baroness, died in her 88th year.

Olga Aleksandovna Scalon (or Skalon) was a daughter of Major-General Aleksander (“Sasha”) Antonovich Skalon (1836-96) and his Ukrainian wife, Ekaterina Petrovna Ljubarskaja (c. 1847-1913). British documentation 1939-61 indicates that Olga was born in 1874. Various Internet genealogies suggest different dates.
Olga became the wife of Baron Johann Theodolph Leo Girard de Soucanton (1855-1918), who had been born in St. Petersburg. This line of the Girard de Soucanton family was culturally more Russian than Baltic-German, using Russian name spellings and patronymics. Johann Theodolph Leo was known as Lev Fedorovich. He served in the Russian army from 1875 until his death achieving the rank of general.
Olga and Lev are known to have had the following children:
1. Baron Leo Roman Paul Girard de Soucanton (1886-1934), known as Lev Lev L'vovich, who followed his father into the Russian army.
2. Baroness Julie Girard de Soucanton (1896-66), known as Yulia Lvovna. She married Leonid Alexandrovich Ereminsky (1890-c. 1923) in 1916. They had one son, Leonid Leonidovich Ereminsky, born on 29 May 1918. Yulia left Russia for Britain after the birth of her son though it is uncertain whether this was before or after her husband’s death. Their son attended Brighton College, East Sussex 1932-35. The London Gazette of 17 August 1936 records Yulia as living at 143 King Henry’s Road, Hampstead and working as a beauty specialist. The 1939 Register records her at the same address cites her birth year as 1899. On 17 June 1940, Leonid (“Minnie”) Leonidovich Ereminsky, aged 22 years was shot down over France, fighting for the Allied forces.
The birth of a third child, named Olga, said to have died in London in 1961 (the same year as her mother) seems unlikely. There are no British records to support online genealogies.
At some point, Olga followed Yulia to Britain.
The 1939 Register taken on 29 September following the outbreak of World War II locates Baroness Olga Girard de Soucanton living as a patient at Coppice Mental Hospital, Ransom Road, Nottingham. Her year of birth is given as 1874. The hospital was near the home of Olga’s sister, Anna (“Nina”) Alexandrovna Scalon (1876-1951), wife of James Duncan Lahey (1869-1948), who lived at 18 St Jude's Avenue.
Baroness Olga Girard de Soucanton died at Coppice Mental Hospital on 27 June 1961 following a fracture of her left femur sustained in an accidental fall. She had been a patient at the asylum for at least 22 years. Olga’s death was registered by the deputy coroner for Nottingham on 29th of the same month. (bio by T E Martin (49491855)
