I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Roy Brown, age 68, of Johnson City, TN, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary Marie Hyder Brown. Mr. Brown was an active member of Berea Freewill Baptist Church, where he had served as a member of the Trustee Board. He was an assistant Sunday School teacher. Mr. Brown served on the board for the First Assist Food Bank at Berea Freewill Baptist Church.

He retired from the U.S. Army after serving for over 30 years. During his time in the Army, he served in Desert Storm.

Mr. Brown was a kind hearted outgoing man, and he seemed to never meet a stranger. During his life, he was an active man who loved his family and was a loving husband to his wife, Christine. While serving in the Army, he worked as a cook, so during holidays he would make pies, cakes and sweet breads to give out to family and friends. He enjoyed working in his garden and messing with his goats. He would gather scrap metal to sell to help keep the food bank going.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Wexler Brown; one brother, Glen Presley.

Survivors include his wife; six children; a step daughter; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive including a special aunt, Shirley. He had a special pet, Sam.

The funeral service for Mr. Brown was conducted at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.

Graveside service and entombment was conducted at Monte Vista Memorial Park following the funeral service on Saturday.
