In 1855, Mary E. Dunbar, aged 12, was living in Brooklyn, NY, in the home of her stepfather, John S. Hiscox, aged 61, and Emily E. Hiscox, aged 34, with siblings, William H. Dunbar, aged 17, Cecelia Dunbar, aged 15, and Clarrepa Dunbar, aged 10. Also living in the household were step-siblings, Joseph C. Hiscox, aged 22, Amelia A. Hiscox, aged 3, and unnamed infant Hiscox, aged 2 months, and Catherine Murphy, servant, aged 19. Her stepfather, John Hiscox, was shown to be a fishmonger.
Obituary - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Emma Tyler, 92, who died Saturday will be held tonight at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Maujer, 60-43 68th Road, Ridgewood.
Mrs. Tyler was born in Boston in 1842. She married Charles Wright Yarrington in Brooklyn when they were both 17. Mr. Yarrington, who died at the age of 40, was for 27 years an ensign in the Eighth Cavalry Grays, commanded by Captain Coates of the Old Washington Market Troops. She married Capt. Edwin B. Tyler in 1879. Her second husband died in 1892.
Mrs. Tyler is survived by seven children: Charles G. Yarrington, Mrs. Emma E. Humke, William W. Yarrington, and Mrs. Maujer, all of Brooklyn, children of the first marriage; Elbert Edwin Tyler and Mrs. Daisy Chappelle of Staten Island and Mrs. Caroline Mahey (Manley) of Keansburg, N.J. She also leaves 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. George Albert Simmons, pastor of the Folsom Avenue M.E. Church, Glendale, will officiate at the services tonight. Burial will take place tomorrow in the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island.
