1927 - 2016
Apr. 16, 1927 - Feb. 28, 2016 Billie, age 88, passed away on Sunday, February 28th, 2016. She loved to travel, play bingo, crochet, quilt, and read. After many years of being a home maker, she returned to school in 1969 and graduated from Birmingham School of Practical Nursing (LPN) in 1970. Billie received her R.N. Associate Degree from Samford University on May 27th, 1978. She retired from Shelby Medical Center in 1989 after 11 years of service. Billie is preceded in death by her husband, David Robert Stewart; daughter, Amanda Vick; and two sons, Robert Stewart and Andy Stewart. She is survived by her son, Jerry Stewart (Karen); daughter, Judy Witt; two daughter in laws, Cathy Stewart and Bobbi Stewart; nine grandchildren and her great grandchildren that brought her so much joy, Ian and Mia Palmedo, Kathryn, Kayla, and Zachary Young, Elies, Cecilia, and Camille Campbell, and Stewart and Zac Powell; and sister Ona Mae Cope as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4th, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with services to begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Columbiana Health and Rehab for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be in Billie's memory to the American Cancer Society .
