Enlisted, October 8, 1940, in Troop A, 101st Cavalry Regiment ( Squadron A ), New York City. He was federalized , January 27, 1941, with Troop A. The federalization was supposed to be for one year. The 101st Cavalry Regiment was stationed at Fort Devens, MA. In the fall of 1941 the 101st Cavalry participated in the Carolina Maneuvers, on the return convoy back to Camp Devens ( December 7, 1941 ) the Second World War began for the United States.


In July of 1942, after the World War began he transferred into the Army Air Corps. Training at Bangor, MA, he became a trail gunner on a bomber. He was transferred, being assigned to the 957th Air Force Secuity Battalion, at Camp Campbell, KY. Due to a knee operation he was sent to Camp Mackail, NC for treatment. He was stricken with pneumonia, transferred to Oliver General Hospital, Augusta, GA, were he died, Jan. 4, 1944.
