The children of this marriage were Samuel Houston, Tom Gilbert, Louis Griffin, Billie Hopgood "Tucker", Katie Jane, James Otis, Willie, Sallie, Anna Marie and Alice Norma. He raised cotton and for a time was the sheriff at Wisner, Louisiana. He was the son of James P. Byrne who served in the 28th Louisiana Grays, Company C. William Phillip was the Uncle of Jerry Lee Lewis. His sister Rilla Lee was Jerry Lee's mother.
