He was born to Earl Kenneth Cornwell and Verna Weaver Cornwell and was the youngest of 4 children. David started life on Park Place Street in Wichita; he ended it on a dirt road, a place he called, “His Serenity”.
His oldest sister, Katie Hartley, got him to church and made sure he behaved, acting as their second mom. His brother Danny Cornwell, deceased, was his best friend. David always said he and his brother Kenny Cornwell stood together as brothers in front of men. Sometime’s they said it with a grin. It was David whom his Dad would call when he needed help and was a Momma's boy true to the end, Amen.
In 1973, he married Patricia S. Pedroja and they shared 43 years together. He was a wonderful husband making sure he cared for and pleased Patricia during their marriage.
His nephews felt blessed to have him as an uncle. They found a place to hang out and someone to with relax with. Shelley K., his niece, could never say, David, so she always called him a “dobbin who knew too much”. Carrie Ann said he was only a call away and on her side. He created unforgettable moments, always knowing what was right.
David was blessed with two daughters, Sheire Wilson and Mandi Criqui. Sheire would always say she was and always will be the biggest fan of his life, for he lived beside the Lord and honored His book. He was baptized in the river, and his family attended his church. Mandi will always believe he was the best of the best and the best in all the us.
He loved his son-in-law, Robert Mericle. Alex Criqui proved himself to David and his love for the family as David relaxed knowing his baby girl was cared for. When Mickey Wilson, walked back into the family marrying Sheire, David had a heartfelt apology to him thankful for second chances for his being a part of the family again.
His grandkids gave him life. Joe brought everlasting joy to his eyes. He and David both had freckles and that was a great connection with them. Dalton David, showed they were the same for he could go shopping at age 5 on his own and knew the big cities. After all, they did it all the time. Shayanna delighted his heart as he proved he was Santa with a big bag and beard. He bounced Raya one day, holding tight, declaring to protect her with his life. Zach was the first son AKA grandson never leaving Zach’s side first and foremost showing to be a true dad.
The friends that stayed with him for over 20 years were his people, his family. Many have passed but the few that still remain, always stayed the same, for they were loving, loyal, and always there through thick and thin, even throughout life’s bends.
As everything in the dark comes to light, we say Thank You for being a part of our life. David will be laid to rest with his momma, dad and brother in Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax, Oklahoma.
