Robert Roy Thomas of Wenonah, 73

Robert Roy Thomas, born June 20, 1929 in Pitman, NJ to Ernest C. Thomas and Olive (Parent) Thomas died peacefully September 25 at his home in Wenonah after a prolonged illness. Mr. Thomas was a lifelong resident of South Jersey. He graduated from Millville High School in 1946 and received a BS in Horticultural Science from Rutgers University in 1950. In 1950 he married Pearl Estilow of Bridgeton, NJ, who survives. Together they had four children, Deborah, Robert, Roger, and Diana.

After college Mr. Thomas enlisted in the Air Force and served in New York, Mississippi, Texas, Alaska and Wisconsin. He rose to the rank of first lieutenant and was discharged in 1955 at which time he went to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie NY. Later he served as an associate professor at Ambler Junior College. In 1959 he moved to Wenonah and joined the Fred C. Gloeckner Company as a representative selling bulbs, seeds, plants and nursery supplies to greenhouses in NJ, PA, DE, and MD. He retired from that position in 1999.

In 1985 Mr. and Mrs. Thomas established Pumphouse Gardens on Glassboro Rd.

Mr. Thomas was active in the Masonic Order as a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Keewaunee, Wisconsin,

Besides his four children Mr. Thomas is survived by five grandchildren.
