Catherine Lederer was born on July 1, 1886, in Jackson County, Michigan, to her thirty-year-old-Frank H. Lederer (1856-1909), and twenty-nine-year-old Anna (Day) Lederer (1856-1931) who had wed on March 31, 1880, at Fredonia in Calhoun County, Michigan. Catherine was their only child.

On May 28, 1908, Catherine Lederer wed William Crapo Durant (1861-1947) after his divorce from his first wife, Clara Miller Pitt Bottler (1864–1940) whom he had wed in 1885 and who was the mother of his only two chldren, Margery Pitt (Durant0 Green (1887–1969) and Russell Clifford Durant (1890–1937) ,whose Memorials are linked to each other, to those of their parents, and to the Memorials of Margery's two huabands and three children and Russell's two wives.
