Actor. Born the only child of professional figure skaters, Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin, in Leningrad, USSR. The family emigrated to the us while he was still an infant. He grew up in Los Angeles, and attended Tarzana’s Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies, And the University of Southern California. He made his acting debut at age 9 in the film “A Man is Mostly Water,” his breakout role, however, came in 2001 as Bobby Garfield in “Hearts in Atlantis,” for which he won Best Performance in a Feature Film – Leading Young Actor at the Young Artist Awards. In 2006, he appeared in “Alpha Dog,” followed by “Charlie Bartlett.” In 2009 he played a young Kyle Reese in “Terminator Salvation,” and perhaps his most recognized role, Ensign Pavel Chekov, in the reboot of “Star Trek.” He then appeared in “Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac” (2010), and another nine projects in 2011, including the remake of “Fright Night.” As demand for him grew, he followed those performances with voice part for "The Smurfs," “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Odd Thomas,” and "Only Lovers Left Alive" in 2013. He appeared in another four films released in 2014 including “Cymbeline,” and six projects in 2015 including “The Green Room.” At the time of his death in an auto accident, another five of his films were in post-production including, “Star Trek Beyond.” Filming on “Thoroughbred,” his last film, had wrapped two weeks before his death. (bio by: Iola)
